Most of the roads around the markets in Phnom Penh always get jam almost every time. However, the road around Olympic market, which was one among those, has changed its appearance since a silently checked of Mr. Mayor Kep Chuktema.
Before, the road around Olympic market always gets jam. Mr. Chheang, the motor saver for the market’s park said that because of the untidy park of the motor taxi, Tuk Tuk, and car that makes the traffic become worst and worst.
“I heard that Mr. Kep Chuktema has come silently to the market to check the traffic problem around the market, and he decorated the police to take action immediately about the untidy park which was the main reason of the jam. Since that time, there is no more big jam,” Chheang said.
Mr. Theng, a seller from the North of the market said similarly that, the main reason that makes the jam was because of the motor taxi and Tuk Tuk which did not have a proper place to park, they just leaved their vehicle everywhere they wanted.
“Now, the police does not allow the car to park into two rows, or allow to park only a haft side of the road. Moreover, if the motor taxi does not park at the place the police provided, the police will take the motor to the station and not giving back until the driver paying find,” said Chheang. “It has helped a lot for the people to travel around the market,” he added.
“The traffic now is better,” said Theng. “I heard that Mr. Kep Chuktema has come silently here to check this problem. After that, the police have been clean up here and now have the proper place for Tuk Tuk and motor to park easily.”
According to this problem, a group of motor taxi and Tuk Tuk driver does not happy with the new rule. “The police just want to make money, they have place for us to park, but we have to pay them 20$ per month, so how can we earn this much amount of money for them while we do not have anything to eat at home,” said angrily all the driver whom do not let to know their name for their security reason.
They continue, “We know that sometime we are wrong, but the police should not take our motor to the station. If they take our motor, we must pay fine which was up to 10000 Riel to impound our vehicle, it is too much for us.” “Some polices hit the driver while the driver did not allow them to take his motor, does the police have right to hit people,” said the drivers.
Ms. Barinha, a customer comes to the market said that she cannot judge who are wrong or who are right, but what she can says is that it is very easy to travel around the market now. It is convenience for her and everyone who comes to the market if the police can control and limit the park place, and leave some part of the road for traveler. “I hope the traffic here would not go down like before,” said Barinha.
